Beloved Oakland Bakery Owner Succumbs To Injuries After Robbery

Friends and family are mourning the loss of this beloved Oakland bakery owner.

According to KRON 4, Jen Angel was reportedly sitting in her car on Webster St. in Oakland on Monday when someone broke in, grabbed her purse and ran towards a getaway car. Angel ran after the thief, was knocked to the ground and later dragged by the vehicle. She was later brought to the hospital in critical condition.

Just days after the incident, her friends released a statement on Thursday, saying:

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Oakland baker, small business owner, social justice activist, and community member Jen Angel has been medically declared to have lost all brain function, and will not regain consciousness. Her official time of death was 5:48 p.m.”

Her organs will reportedly be donated and benefit as many as 70 people.

Jen Angel was the owner of Angel Cakes located on 5th St. She was very active in her community and a champion for social justice. A GoFundMe has been created in her honor.

No arrests have been made. However, Angel did not believe in traditional incarceration and punishment. Instead, "the family is committed to pursuing all available alternatives to traditional prosecution, such as restorative justice," should the Oakland Police Department make an arrest.
