Chevron officials say a fire at refinery in the San Francisco Bay area has been contained.
Company spokeswoman Heather Kulp said late Monday the fire was contained, but she could not say when firefighters would be able to put the fire out.
Even with the blaze contained, smoke continued to pour from the facility in Richmond. The fire started Monday evening, sending flames with thick black smoke out of at least two refinery stacks and over Richmond and San Pablo,.
The fire started in the refinery's "4 Crude Unit" at around 6:30 p.m., which also prompted a "shelter in place" order that was in effect for more than four hours.
Contra Costa County Health officials called off the "shelter in place" order at 11:30 p.m.
