Wasting no time in getting back to the stage, Roach Gigz has been gearing for a 10-city trek that kicked off in San Francisco, and will continue along the West Coast for the next month, wrapping up in San Diego’s House of Blues. Before heading out on the road, Roach Gigz made a quick stop to talk with 106 KMEL’s own Shay Diddy about the new tour and other projects he’s working on.
For his third headlining tour, Roach has teamed up with fellow Young California rappers Husalah for the “Keep It Lit Tour,” as well as Bobby Brackins and J. Stalin, in an effort to help grow and expand the Bay Area rap movement. “I think it’s a beautiful thing to get to where I have – just staying the same and keeping it goomba, keeping it Roach Gigz,” he explains. “But I feel like there are a lot of rappers out here with potential. I feel like there needs to be more sides of the city shown. I feel like there are a lot of other people out here doing different things, and I would love to see everyone eating.” This support is reflective in his Goomba movement and on his Goomba label, with the roster featuring those of his inner circle.
Roach also touches on his most recent mixtape ‘Roachy Balboa: Round 3,’ which he’s described as the 2013 version of his first critically-acclaimed mixtape. Though the mixtape is reminiscent of the initial project, Roach insists that he’s grown as an artist and refuses to be categorized under one sound.
With more shows and new music on the horizon, what’s next for the Bay Area rapper? “I really want to act. That’s something I really want to do and people don’t really know it. It’s all about getting to the point where can step in that door and create more opportunities and for the people around you. That’s what I really want to do,” he says.
‘Roachy Balboa: Round 3’ is currently available for free download, featuring appearances by IamSu, Clyde Carson, Kool John, and more.
