These social media challenges are getting out of hand!

According to NBC Bay Area, there's a trend where teens steal Hyundai or Kia vehicles, take them on a joy ride and post it on social media! Some of these vehicles from 2010-2021 can reportedly be started with a USB cord, making them easy targets for theft.

The trend went viral on TikTok a year ago, but has apparently resurfaced and is the cause of an increase in car theft ever since. The social media company has also publicly announced that they do not condone or encourage such behavior.

A San Jose woman's Hyundai was recently stolen and blames this challenge. She found her vehicle days later, trashed and down the street from her home.

NBC Bay Area reports that Autotrader recommends providing extra security for your vehicle and using a steering wheel lock.
