The Polar Vortex Aftermath: Ways to Help

Getty Images

If you haven't seen the harsh conditions that the people in Texas have been experiencing during this Polar Vortex - then you've missed some graphic footage of snow and ice covered cityscapes filled with folks without power and water for days. They are dealing with freezing pipes that have been bursting in their homes, not to mention they have had to become resourceful and quickly since they don't normally get hit with these FAR beyond chilly temps. If you've been following along or checking in with your friends and family living in the midwest, you might be wondering if and how you can help as they slowly but surely get power/water access back as well as repair all the damages from the storms.

Here are some ways to help:

Donate to their food banks ~~> Feeding Texas: Has a list of food banks throughout the state and you can donate to specific areas if you'd like.

Help Pets in Need ~~> Texas SPCA

Donate a care package or hygiene kit ~~> Integral Care Foundation

Air BnB's Open Homes Program also connects folks to temporary free housing. Know someone with extra space or in need of temporary housing check them out here: Air BnB Open Homes
